Star Sports, Real-Time Player Tracking
A Real-Time Player Tracking System for cricket, successfully deployed during the Asia Cup 2022 and 2023. The system processes overhead camera feeds to track all 11 fielders simultaneously, delivering precise positional data at 30 FPS, and visualizing an interactive Bird’s Eye View (BEV) of the field.
Key Features
- Fully automated Computer Vision and Machine Learning pipeline for player detection and tracking.
- Seamless integration into live broadcast graphics in collaboration with Disney Star Sports and AELive.
- Engineered to handle challenging broadcast conditions, including variable lighting, occlusions from spider cams and umpires, and complex player detections in crowded scenes.
This project represents a successful transition from lab research to field deployment, demonstrating how innovative sports analytics can transform live cricket coverage. Grateful to IIIT-Hyderabad for fostering a research environment that enabled this work.
